End Of Semester!

Image
" Last Day of Classes "  My viewpoint on using technology into K–6 education has changed significantly over this semester. At first, I had doubts regarding the practical application of digital technologies in K–6 primary teaching. What I've discovered is that when technology is carefully incorporated into classrooms, it has the ability to change learning. The significance of matching technology to learning objectives and the various needs of young students is one important lesson to be learned. The course focused on technology's role as an enhancer, a tool to deepen and augment learning experiences, rather than seeing it as a stand-alone entity. The variety of digital tools available can accommodate different learning styles and skills within the K–6 range, from interactive apps to collaborative platforms. In terms of practicing it in my practicum school; for my big summative assessment, grade ¾ students were required to conduct research on their chosen plant and a...

Digital Storytelling: The Kainai (pronounced "GUY-nah") Nation

Image
The Kainai (pronounced "GUY-nah") Nation      I wish to express my deep respect and reverence for our presence on the ancestral lands of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the communities of Treaty 7, comprising the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut'ina, and Îyârhe Nakoda peoples. Our location is where the Bow River converges with the Elbow River, and it holds the historical Blackfoot designation of Mohkinstsis, now recognized as the City of Calgary.      Greetings/Oki! I acknowledge that I am an inhabitant on the territory now recognized as Canada. It is of great significance for me to engage in a respectful exploration of the cultures, traditions, wisdom, and customs of the Indigenous peoples who have inhabited this land. I have chosen to gain knowledge about the Kainai (pronounced "GUY-nah") nation, a constituent of the First Nations community in Southern Alberta.      The Kainai Nation is a First Nation Tribe that is a part of the Black...

Scratch Mini Lesson: The Water Cycle

Image
The Aquatic Adventure: Exploring the Wondrous Water Cycle What stage of water cycle is this image ?    Big Idea: "How does the water cycle sustain life on Earth and influence the planet's climate and ecosystems?"  LINK : Mini Lesson Plan   Water is never lost; it constantly cycles between the Earth's surface, the atmosphere, and back again. This cycle includes the process like evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. The Water Cycle is a complicated concept to understand, the reason why I chose this topic for my mini lesson is because integrating art and technology with this concept will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the lesson in so many different creative ways. Students will engage in hands-on collaborative learning where they will explore the topic of the water cycle through visual simulation. In my future teaching practice, I will incorporate coding platforms as a tool for my students to engage in complex concep...

Creation App Mini-Lesson

Image
CLASS DOJO      Integrating educational apps in classroom is a great way to enhance student engagement, provide interactive learning experiences and offer personalized feedback. Class Dojo is a great tool for promoting positive behaviour and building a positive classroom culture. It allows teachers to track and reward students behaviour and achievements while also providing a platform for communication with parents which fosters a sense of community. Teachers are able to customize the platform specifically the "point system" depending on their class needs to align with the classroom management strategies.  In terms of facilitating the mini lesson, it was interesting to see how actively engaged my peers were. By clearly stating the learning objectives and the learning tasks for the mini lesson, expectations on what to anticipate from the lesson was stationed. Informing my peers about the educational benefits of integrating technology and apps in lessons was pri...

How can educators utilize Twitter (X)? What are the pros and cons?

Image
Twitter  Twitter:  https://twitter.com/AghaRohma What are some strength and weaknesses of using Twitter in the school community?  Pros:  Excellent source of breaking news and staying informed of the current news.  Provides a quick and efficient way to disseminate information to students, teachers and the broader school community.  Schools can use it to engage students in discussions, share educational content and promote extra curricular activities. It provides timely update and is a great way to encourage parent engagement in the school community. Cons:  There is a risk sharing information as it can raise privacy concerns and inappropriate content.  As much as Twitter can be seen as a great asset, it is very time consuming and can be a distraction. Due to the overwhelming excessive amount of information, there is a risk of miscommunication or misunderstanding of the important information.  How would I use X in my future teaching pract...

Technological Innovation

Image
Technological Innovation Incorporating technology in the classroom is very important as it provides students with the opportunities to engage in more interactive, collaborative and personalized learning experiences. The alternative representation and visualization of the information allows students to explore different perspectives and develop critical learning skills. It is also very important to acknowledge the challenges that children born in low-income countries may face as their access to quality education and technology based resources can be very limited. Nevertheless, there are still many effective teaching strategies and methods that can be utilized to advocate for quality education.  Personally, I had no access to technology in any of my K-8 classrooms and unfortunately I also lacked other educational resources for innovative learning experiences. The classroom maintained one chalkboard that was used for visual demonstrations and the lessons were mostly delivered auditory...
