Digital Storytelling: The Kainai (pronounced "GUY-nah") Nation

The Kainai (pronounced "GUY-nah") Nation

I wish to express my deep respect and reverence for our presence on the ancestral lands of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the communities of Treaty 7, comprising the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut'ina, and Îyârhe Nakoda peoples. Our location is where the Bow River converges with the Elbow River, and it holds the historical Blackfoot designation of Mohkinstsis, now recognized as the City of Calgary.

Greetings/Oki! I acknowledge that I am an inhabitant on the territory now recognized as Canada. It is of great significance for me to engage in a respectful exploration of the cultures, traditions, wisdom, and customs of the Indigenous peoples who have inhabited this land. I have chosen to gain knowledge about the Kainai (pronounced "GUY-nah") nation, a constituent of the First Nations community in Southern Alberta.

The Kainai Nation is a First Nation Tribe that is a part of the Blackfoot Confederacy. They have over 12,000 registered band members. They are also known as the Blood Tribe. They are located on Treaty 7 land in Southern Alberta.

Check out my digital story to learn about the Kainai Nation.

  1. Wow! I like how you have included a land acknowledgement. Nice image you have included too! I wonder how your story would look with more images. I did not add as much in mine either. Next time!
